DT's South-Central Washington Epic Ride Loop (SCWERL)
Pick up this loop at any point for an almost 400 mile ride touring some of southern Washington State's most beautiful scenery. From views of Rimrock Lake and Mt Rainier from White Pass on Hwy 12, past Mt St Helens in the Gifford-Pinchot National Forest, the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, up Klickitat Grade and over the hills into the scenic wine country of the Yakima River Valley.
Be sure to zoom in carefully in some areas of the loop, as I have included some of my favorite alternate routes to minimize the use of slab highways and maximize the scenery intake. The mountainous areas of the ride abound with tight, twisting ribbons of asphalt.
The best times of year for this ride are late spring and mid-autumn. The roads through Gifford-Pinchot are closed in the winter, and heavily populated with RV's and sunday drivers in the summer. In the Autumn the changing leaves make for an even more dramatic backdrop to this awesome ride.
