Fenton Lake and Valles Caldera in Jemez
This is a great ride for getting out of town for half a day. It takes you from Albuquerque up into Jemez Springs and to a few spots along the way. Up in Jemez, this takes you to Fenton Lake which is a nice recreational area for fishing or kayaking.
From there, you head toward the Valles Caldera. It's a really nice open area and has some good scenery. The road to the visitor center is unpaved, so keep that in mind.
After you get onto 4 from 550, watch for quick changes in speed limits as you pass through towns. There are a lot of nice twisty roads up here with a lot of elevation changes.
