Flagstaff Mountain Road

This motorcycle ride begins at just over 5,680 feet in elevation at Boulder Mountain Park and climbs to 7,850 feet in elevation as you pass Kossler Lake. It ends at just below 7500' at the turnaround to Gross Reservoir.

This area is maintained by Boulder Parks and you must pay if you wish to park anywhere along it's duration.

The beginning of this ride follows Baseline Rd west past the trial-head for Boulder Mountain Park. This area is heavily traversed by bikers, hikers and cars. Be careful as you start this ride and keep an eye out for pedestrians.

Baseline Road becomes Flagstaff Road when you enter Boulder Mountain Park and begins the ascent up the mountain. The road is clean and well maintained asphalt with a 20 mph speed limit. There are several switchbacks with 10 mph recommended speeds. Because of the foot traffic and cyclist in the area, you are pretty much limited to maintaining the recommended speed through the park. The scenery is gorgeous with a few very nice overlooks of the City of Boulder.

Once you get out of Boulder Mountain Park, the road straightens out a bit and the speed limit increases to 35 mph. This section was ravaged by fire and the scenery isn't as nice as it once was. Deer are commonly found on the roadways so keep an eye out for them.

The ride back down Flagstaff Rd is steep and a lot of fun though tailgaters can ruin it.
