Red Wing Shoes - 6674 Boots
These are the only boots I’ve ever worn since I started motorcycling in September 2008. I bought them because they were advertised as waterproof, an aluminum toe area and ankle coverage. They also seemed comfortable when I was trying them on and the laces went up pretty high on the boot so I could make them very tight fitting if necessary.
My first long ride with these boots was when I rode from Albuquerque, NM to Las Vegas, NV and had to ride through 400 miles of rain, snow, sleet and hail. My feet stayed amazingly warm and dry. The only water that managed to get inside was from where my rain pants had slid up and let some water soak into my jeans. I was wearing some smart wool socks which also helped keep my feet warm. I have also been on rides with these boots in the dead of summer in the middle of the Southwest USA and they’ve stayed comfortable.
The aluminum toe of the boots actually seems to make shifting into higher gears easier for me. I’ve also toured a little bit on my bike and stopped at some hiking spots. These boots hold up well for shorter hikes on dirt and gravel trails. I wouldn’t want to hike for any serious distance in them, but for the most part they do the job well. The other thing I like about these boots is you can wear them around casually without them looking too out of place. If you’re walking around town after riding all day you won’t feel as strange as you would if you had dirtbiking boots on or something similar.
After a little over 3 years of use, these boots have held up very well. There are a few discolored spots from shifting, but the boots themselves don’t have any rips or tears. If you’re looking for a nice boot to wear while riding that handles well in cold, rain and warm weather then I would suggest you go try a pair of these on.
