Zega Pro 25L Topcase with Rapid Trap

I’m a fan of having a topcase on my bike to store things like alternate helmet visors, bungees and tiedowns and additional rain gear. They’re also great for running small errands and securing more expensive items while touring. When I purchased my Triumph Tiger 800 I ended up getting the Anodized Black Zega Pro 25 liter topcase with the Rapid Trap system from Touratech. For my usage, the 25 liter size works well and it’s not too out of place on the back of the bike for day to day riding.

The Pros:
As I mentioned above, I love that the top case isn’t obnoxiously big. I previously had a Givi V46T topcase on my old Suzuki SV650 and it looked a little out of place on there when I was just riding around town. I also like the Rapid Trap system which makes removing and securing the topcase extremely easy. The latch and locking mechanism is easy to use and very secure, although I was stumped the first time I used it. I didn’t realize you had to push a button up under the latch to release it. It makes perfect sense now but at the time I couldn’t figure out how to open it. The case also has four tie-downs on the lid which work great for bungee nets and strapping down miscellaneous items.

The Cons:
I haven’t used this on a long tour yet, but I can see how the 25 liters might be a little too small for a longer ride. Another thing I find a little obnoxious is when you take the top case off, there isn’t an easy way to hold it for carrying it around. The tie-down latches on the lid aren’t big enough to use as grips and the latching mechanism doesn’t really work as one either. It’s not too big of a deal with the small size of the 25 liter case, but I can imagine that the 38 liter size box is going to be extremely uncomfortable to carry around.

Overall, for some extra storage the Zega Pro 25L topcase works well. It’s a little on the pricey side but the case feels solid and well constructed and the andonized coating adds that extra layer of protection. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a small topcase for day to day use.
