Brandon and I started out Saturday evening after he picked up his rental bike. He rented a GSXR 600. We rode 115 miles around phoenix to get a pre-ride in before the big day. Headed to south mountain, but it was closed so we rode out to b-line and back down shea going through Fountain Hills. Once we hit the 101, we rode all the way around to the 51 and got off at Greenway and headed home.
Nice evening ride to start off our adventure.
Sunday morning we got up early and left at 7am headed out towards Wickenburg. We continued on to Yarnel and then up to Prescott. That road is pretty fun. We stopped and had breakfast at the waffle iron in town and then decided to go through Jerome after talking to a few patrons at the resturaunt. This road had me a little intimidated and I almost screwed up a couple of times not paying attention and tensing up.
**I highly recommend experience before riding this road.
At any rate, I learned very quickly how to handle my bike and there after to Jerome I was fine (5 mins to Jerome..lol). Anyway we stopped and had a beer at Paul Jerry's Saloon and it was very refreshing after those curvy switchbacks.
After the saloon, we rode through Cottonwood and back down to the I-17. Brandon wanted to go to Payson so we continued passed the I-17 taking the 260 across the Mogollan rim and finally into Payson. What a nice ride that was. The temperature dropped about 20 degrees and we had to stop and enjoy the scenery for a moment once we got in the thick of the trees. In Payson we stopped at a pub for another beer and we decided at that point it was time to adventure home. The rental bike was due to be returned by 6pm.
Leaving the pub, Brandon told me to try and keep up with him and he will show me the greatest benefit of having the motorcyle in traffic. I was reluctant at first, but I agreed with the response of "Ill try, but try not to get me killed please". He laughed a bit and agreed not to get too crazy and we were on the way.
We got going on the highway and it wasn't very jammed up, but Brandon wanted to play. I realized what he was going to do when he looked at the gap and then behind him. I followed behind him quickly and the sowing of traffic began. In and out of every gap we could squeeze through. At some points we were crossing 100+ swinging between cars. I got a little nervous on that one especially going into a long sweeping curve.
The average speed from Payson was about 95 miles per hour and we made it back to the house in one hour and fifteen minutes. That was very exhilarating to say the least.
The entire trip came in at 457 miles in under 24 hours. Not bad for a first ride out of town with a new bike. I can't wait for the next adventure. Next time Brandon will have his GSXR1000 and I probably won't be able to keep up with him being mine is an 800, but it will still be a blast.
Till next time...JB
